Towards the end, this novel just got me to tears. John Steinbeck be damned. Ugh. Lenny was such a lovely guy. Though he might come with some unfortunate circumstances, (I read) that he's a little mentally challenged, or perhaps something like global development delay, but still. Shit.
The dialogue with Crooks, the stable Buck, felt like it mirrors real life.
Just like heaven. Everybody wants a little piece of land. I read plenty of books out here. Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. It's just in their head.
Kinda just paints you the American dream that everyone dreams of. Always feels like it's within your reach, but not quite.
The way Steinbeck paints the scene and develops the characters just about enough for you to be drawn but not attached is perfect. Slim was growing onto me I got to admit.
